Many Americans who were invited to join Mexico accepted their invitation to Mexico. The American settlers did not lose their loyalty to the United States. The Texas settlers accustomed to American democracy disliked the Mexican legal system. 1829 the Mexican government abolished slavery which caused great discontent with the Anglo-Americans.
